About the Free Methodist Church
The Free Methodist Church began in 1860 in New York as a movement devoted to living out the fullness of the gospel in both personal holiness and social justice. The name “Free” reflected the founders’ commitments to freedom in worship, freedom for the enslaved, free pews for all (no rental fees), and freedom from oppressive structures. Rooted in the Wesleyan tradition, we believe God’s grace transforms lives, calls us into holy living, and sends us to love our neighbors in both word and deed.
We affirm the Bible as God’s inspired Word, salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit in making us Christlike, and the mission of the Church to bring the good news of God’s kingdom to all people.
