Howie was born in Brazil to missionary parents and lived there his first 5 years. Then raised mostly in Chicago, where Howie’s father pastored. After going to Greenville University in southern Illinois, Howie moved out to Denver for a year-long discipleship program called, Doulos Ministries. It was there that Howie met the love of his life, Nicole, and they soon married and moved to Oklahoma for a Youth Minister position. Having served in youth ministry for 20 years in several states, Howie and Nicole were ordained as Elders in the Free Methodist Church in the Southern Michigan Conference. During that time, Howie completed his Masters of Arts in Youth Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky, taking most of his classes from distance. After serving in youth ministry in the Chicago area, Howie & Nicole answered calls to lead pastor positions and pastored for 2 years in United Methodist Churches in northern Illinois, north of Rockford before coming back to their home denomination in answering the call to co-pastor River Church in January, 2021. Howie is an avid cyclist and rides with Team Evergreen in warmer weather and is into virtual racing in the cold months. Howie also enjoys playing his guitar and singing with the worship band and listening to all kinds of music. Howie, co-pastors River Church with his wife, Nicole, while living in Lakewood, CO, with three of their kids, Clark, Lysander, Greer, their greyhound, Wiggy; their oldest, Samantha, working in Urban Planning in the city of Denver.
